Do I have a leak?
First, make certain that you have a leak. Mark the height of the water in the skimmer or tile line with a piece of tape or a pencil mark. Watch the water over several days to see if there is a problem. Evaporation can play a significant part of water loss and is increased when the pool is heated. After it is determined by careful observation that there is a leak in your pool contact us. By asking a series of questions we can likely determine the nature of the problem by the symptoms your pool is exhibiting and recommend the next step to take in fixing your problem. Here are a couple of things you can do yourself prior to calling us to determine if there is a legitimate leak and possibly save some money for an unnecessary service call.

Evaporation Test
Fill a large bucket and put on the second step of the pool. Fill the bucket to approximately the same level as the pool. It may be necessary to put something heavy in the bottom of the bucket to prevent it from floating away. Mark the level of the water inside the bucket and the level of the water in the pool. Monitor the water loss over 24 or 48 hours and compare the difference in water loss. Although not foolproof this gives an indication of whether the pool is losing water from a leak or evaporating. Factors such as heater use and slight differences in water temperature in the pool and the small volume of water in the bucket can skew the results of the test procedure especially when the water loss is marginal. Most pools lose 1/8" to 1/4" of water per day for evaporation. Evaporation is also seasonal. Humidity, temperature, wind, pool water temperature and heat from the sun will all effect evaporation
Where is all this water going?
The same place it does when it rains, into the ground. Unfortunately the ground under your pool, which in time this water flow can undermine your pool deck and cause structural problems that can eat deeply into your pocketbook. In a vinyl pool an unrepaired leak can wash out the sand or vermiculite under the liner. Sometimes it can turn into an unrepairable problem if ignored for any length of time. Just refilling the pool continually because you have well water or can afford it is not a good idea. A concrete pool can actually rise and float out of the ground when it becomes empty because of a high water table. If you don't think concrete can float, there are many barges that were constructed during world war two that float.
Can a small hole cause all that water loss?
A hole that a pen can be stuck in can easily account for a loss of two inches a day. Several holes much smaller than that can account for much more of a water loss. Also a liner pool with holes that are not visible to the eye can leak through the material. After years of chemical exposure, ultraviolet light and fluctuating PH the vinyl material breaks down and becomes porous. A liner in this condition can lose a significant amount of water everyday. As the liner weakens with age the amount of force used to clean the liner when it was new and resilient can be enough to puncture the material. If care is taken when vacuuming or brushing the pool this type of damage can be avoided.
How does my pool leak get repaired?
If the leak is in the structure of your pool, I will actually dive underwater to determine its location, size, and best method to stop the leak. Leaks in the structure of a concrete pool can usually be repaired with a various combination of materials. Not every leak is repaired in the same method. This is determined by size, severity, location, and complexity. Vinyl pools can be patched underwater. Underground plumbing leaks are found by pressure testing and Ultrasonic Detection. Don't ignore your leak problems over the winter. This could mean disaster for your pool. I can actually do the repair during the winter. Let us help you protect your valuable investment in your pool. Your pool is supposed to be a source of enjoyment not anxiety. I can help.
Finding a leak electronically
The LeakTrac 2200 utilizes proven technology to find vinyl liner leaks fast . . . without dye . . . without draining the pool. The LeakTrac 2200 helps assist with finding very small leaks or leaks in vinyl liners where a diver is unable to locate the leak. While standing on the deck the operator is able to first establish a leaks general area, then pinpoint even the smallest leaks in minutes. This technology is effective in any water containing vessel with an electrically insulating shell, (vinyl, fiberglass, acrylic, etc.)
Finding Leaks Underground
Listening devices are are used to pinpoint underground plumbing leaks by detecting the distinctive bubbling sound created when air is blown through a leak into water saturated soil.
We use both the XLT30H Electronic Listening Devices in conjunction with an underwater hydrophone (microphone) This allows us to diagnose and locate the leak both underwater and underground.
Sonic Leak Detection is used in conjunction with Pressure Testing for finding leaks in your plumbing. It is used to listen for escaping air or water from the pipes that run under your decking. We can find leaks in your lines quickly and accurately using this test.

Pool Pressure Testing
In ground swimming pools can not only have a leak in the vinyl liner or concrete shell, they have have hidden underground plumbing leaks that are not normally visible. These leaks can range from rather small and insignificant to larger leaks that produce a large volume of water loss. Swimming pool pressure testing can be provided to gain additional information about your pool plumbing. Hidden underground leaks just dont lose water, they lose chemicals you have added as well as heat of the water through continued filling. Not only does a leak waste time and money, you are causing damage underground that can affect the pool and surrounding properties.
Loko Pod Water Loss Sensor
We can analyze the swimming pool water loss with the Kona Labs 2750 Water loss sensor. This sensor can detect water loss as little as 2/10,000 of an inch. This device can determine in minutes how much water the pool is actually losing in a 24 hour period. We can assist pool companies and builders with "leak status certifications". Build a pool, have us come out and certify the same day if the pool is losing water or not. With this highly sensitive computer we can determine water loss in virtually minutes. We can also perform pool inspections for any entity both commercial and residential. Apartment complexs, Real Estate agents, and pool builders. We can help you obtain information regarding your pool
Underwater Services
The best method of finding and locating a leak is underwater visualization and repair. There are many companies who can locate your swimming pool leak. However, they don't include the actual repair. Underwater Scuba Diving provides us with direct visualization of the damage and repair. "Surface" repairs (with the patch being lowered onto the leaking area) is not a good, quality repair. Placement of a patch by someone other than a diver can't be guaranteed its placed properly. We are Master Diver rated. We offer cold water services with dry suits for cold water entry, a service most pool companies don't offer. We perform year around pool leak detection and repairs.
Swimming Pool Crack Repair
Swimming pools can develop cracks in the concrete that lies beneath the plaster finish, due to settling, ground shifting or erosion. Simple hairline cracks in the finish may not involve a leak and can, usually, be easily repaired. However, a crack that is structural in nature and is under stress cannot be simply glued in place or plastered over, as the forces involved will continue to pull the crack apart. Such cracks must be stabilized in order to prevent the crack from widening and causing ongoing leak problems. Our Swimming Pool Crack Repair service prevents cracks from widening and allows for a rock-solid repair. Concrete and Gunite pools can crack. causing leaks.
